Welcome to the Newto News for May of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Wichita, Kansas was founded in 1863 as a trading post on the Chisholm Trail and quickly grew into a bustling cow town. Located at the confluence of the Arkansas and Little Arkansas Rivers, Wichita became a key stop for cattle drives heading north to market. The arrival of the railroad in the late 1870s further fueled the city’s growth, turning it into a major transportation hub in the Midwest. In the early 20th century, Wichita became known as the “Air Capital of the World” due to its prominence in the aviation industry. Companies like Cessna, Beechcraft, and Learjet all had their headquarters in the city, contributing to its economic prosperity. Today, Wichita is a vibrant city with a diverse economy that includes aviation, healthcare, manufacturing, and agriculture. Its rich history as a frontier town and industrial powerhouse is evident in its museums, historic sites, and lively arts and cultural scene.
