Welcome to the Newto News for December of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Waco, Texas was founded in 1849 on the banks of the Brazos River by settlers looking for a new place to call home. The city quickly grew into a bustling trading post, attracting traders and merchants from all over the region. In the 1870s, Waco became a major hub for the cattle industry, with cowboys driving herds from the surrounding ranches to the railheads in town. In 1886, tragedy struck the city when a massive tornado tore through Waco, leaving a path of destruction in its wake. Despite this setback, Waco quickly rebuilt and continued to prosper. The 20th century brought even more growth and development to the city, with the founding of Baylor University in 1845 and the construction of the Waco Suspension Bridge in 1870, which became a symbol of the city’s progress. Today, Waco is known for its rich history, vibrant arts scene, and strong sense of community. The city continues to thrive as a center for education, agriculture, and commerce in the heart of Texas.
