Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Ventura, California, originally inhabited by the Chumash Native American tribe, was first explored by Spanish explorers in the 16th century. It was officially founded in 1782 by Father Junipero Serra as the Mission San Buenaventura, one of the 21 California missions. In the mid-19th century, Ventura became a thriving agricultural community, known for its citrus and bean production. The arrival of the Southern Pacific Railroad in the late 19th century further boosted the city’s economy and population growth. Ventura became known as a popular beach resort destination in the early 20th century, attracting tourists with its beautiful coastline and mild climate. In the 1970s and 80s, Ventura experienced a period of rapid growth and development, leading to the expansion of residential and commercial areas. Today, Ventura is a vibrant coastal city known for its cultural heritage, outdoor recreational opportunities, and thriving arts and music scene.
