Tyler, Texas was founded in 1846 by John Tyler, the 10th President of the United States. Originally established as a stop on the railroad, the city quickly grew into a thriving community. By the late 19th century, Tyler became known as the “Rose Capital of America” due to its abundance of rose bushes and annual Rose Festival. During the Civil War, Tyler served as a Confederate hub for supplies and troops. The city played a significant role in the war effort and saw its fair share of battles and skirmishes. In the early 20th century, Tyler experienced a boom in industry and population growth as oil was discovered in the nearby East Texas Oil Field. The city became an important center for the oil industry and saw an influx of new residents seeking work. Today, Tyler is a vibrant city with a diverse economy and a rich cultural heritage. The annual Rose Festival continues to draw visitors from around the country, showcasing the city’s natural beauty and historical significance.
