Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Syracuse, New York, has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1805 by Colonel John Lincklaen. The city quickly became a hub for trade and transportation, thanks in large part to its location on the Erie Canal. This led to a boom in industry, particularly in salt production, earning Syracuse the nickname “Salt City.” Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, Syracuse continued to grow and prosper, attracting immigrants from all over Europe who came to work in the city’s factories and mines. The city also became a center for education, with the founding of Syracuse University in 1870. In the latter half of the 20th century, Syracuse faced economic challenges as many of its industries declined. However, the city has since rebounded, diversifying its economy and investing in revitalization projects to attract new businesses and residents. Today, Syracuse is a vibrant city known for its cultural attractions, including museums, theaters, and a thriving culinary scene. It remains an important economic and educational center in upstate New York.
