Staten Island, New York, originally inhabited by the Lenape Native American tribe, was colonized by the Dutch in the early 17th century. The island was later taken over by the British and played a strategic role in the American Revolution as a base for British operations. It remains a unique and thriving borough of New York City, with a rich history and a promising future.
