Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Starkville, Mississippi was founded in 1831 by the Mississippi legislature and named after Revolutionary War hero General John Stark. The city grew rapidly due to its location on the Mobile and Ohio Railroad, becoming a hub for agriculture and commerce in the region. Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, Starkville thrived as a center for cotton production and trade. During the Civil War, Starkville was occupied by Union troops and saw significant destruction, but the city quickly recovered and continued to grow in the post-war years. In the late 20th century, Starkville experienced a surge in population and economic development, with the establishment of Mississippi State University bringing new opportunities for education and research to the area. Today, Starkville is a vibrant city known for its rich history, thriving cultural scene, and strong sense of community. It remains an important center for education, agriculture, and industry in Mississippi.
