Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Springfield, Missouri was founded in 1829 by John Polk Campbell, who named the city after his hometown of Springfield, Tennessee. Located in the Ozarks region, Springfield quickly became a hub for trade and transportation due to its central location in the United States. The city played a significant role in the Civil War, being the site of the Battle of Wilson’s Creek in 1861. After the war, Springfield experienced rapid growth with the arrival of the railroad and an influx of settlers attracted to the city’s booming economy. The city became known for its thriving agriculture industry, particularly in the production of wheat, dairy, and livestock. Springfield also became a center for education and culture, with the establishment of Springfield College (now Drury University) and various arts organizations. Today, Springfield is a vibrant city known for its historic downtown, bustling music scene, and strong sense of community. It continues to thrive as a cultural and economic center in the Midwest.
