Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. Spokane, Washington, has a rich history dating back to the indigenous Spokane people who originally inhabited the area. The first European settlement was established in the early 1800s, and the city grew rapidly with the arrival of the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1881. Spokane quickly became a hub for mining, timber, and agriculture industries, attracting settlers from all over the country. In 1889, a devastating fire destroyed much of the city, but Spokane was quickly rebuilt and continued to prosper. Throughout the 20th century, Spokane experienced periods of economic growth and decline, but in recent years has undergone a revitalization with a focus on technology, healthcare, and tourism. The city is known for its natural beauty, outdoor recreation opportunities, and vibrant arts and culture scene. Today, Spokane is a thriving city with a diverse population and a strong sense of community pride.
