Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

South Bend, Indiana was founded in 1820 by fur trader Pierre Navarre, who settled along the St. Joseph River. The city quickly grew as a trading post and transportation hub due to its location on the river and proximity to Lake Michigan. In the mid-19th century, South Bend became known for its manufacturing industry, particularly in the production of wagons and later automobiles. By the early 20th century, South Bend was home to major industrial companies, including Studebaker and Oliver Chilled Plow Works, which brought a surge of economic prosperity to the city. The University of Notre Dame was founded in 1842 and has since become a prominent institution in the area. Today, South Bend is a diverse city with a strong manufacturing and technology sector, as well as a vibrant arts and culture scene. The city continues to grow and evolve, while also honoring its rich history and heritage.
