Welcome to the Newto News for December of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

South Bend, Indiana was founded in 1831 by fur trader and land speculator Alexis Coquillard. Located on the St. Joseph River, the city quickly grew into a hub of industry and commerce in northern Indiana. By the mid-19th century, South Bend had become known for its thriving manufacturing sector, particularly in the production of wagons and other agricultural equipment. The city’s economy continued to diversify in the early 20th century, with the establishment of the Studebaker Corporation, which became one of the largest automobile manufacturers in the country. South Bend also became an important center of education, with the founding of the University of Notre Dame in 1842. Today, South Bend is a vibrant and diverse city, known for its cultural attractions, including museums, theaters, and parks. The city continues to grow and evolve, while still maintaining its historical roots as a center of industry and innovation.
