Welcome to the Newto News for May of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Sioux Falls, South Dakota was originally inhabited by the Native American Sioux tribe, who named the area “The Falls of the Big Sioux River” due to the large cascading waterfall that flowed through the region. In the early 1800s, European settlers began to arrive in the area, attracted by the abundant natural resources and fertile land. The city of Sioux Falls was officially founded in 1856 when a group of settlers established a permanent settlement along the banks of the Big Sioux River. It quickly grew into a bustling hub for fur trading, agriculture, and milling, thanks in part to its strategic location on the railroad. Over the years, Sioux Falls has weathered economic booms and busts, along with natural disasters such as the devastating 1972 flood that swept through the city. Today, Sioux Falls is a thriving metropolitan area, known for its strong economy, cultural attractions, and vibrant community.
