Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Shreveport, Louisiana, has a rich history dating back to the early 19th century. Originally settled by the Caddo Native American tribe, the area was later claimed by the Spanish and then the French before becoming part of the United States in the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. The city was officially founded in 1836 and quickly became a booming river port due to its prime location on the Red River. During the Civil War, Shreveport served as the capital of Confederate Louisiana and was a significant hub for the Confederacy’s war efforts. After the war, Shreveport continued to grow as a major industrial and commercial center, attracting businesses and residents from across the country. Today, the city is known for its vibrant arts and culture scene, thriving music industry, and bustling downtown area. Throughout its history, Shreveport has faced challenges and overcome adversity, making it a resilient and vibrant city with a unique blend of Southern charm and modern amenities.
