Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Santa Barbara, California, is a city steeped in rich history dating back thousands of years. Originally inhabited by the Chumash Native American tribe, the area was later explored by Spanish conquistadors in the late 18th century. In 1786, the Presidio of Santa Barbara was established as a military outpost to protect the Spanish missions in the region. Throughout the 19th century, Santa Barbara grew into a thriving agricultural community known for its citrus and olive production. The city experienced a devastating earthquake in 1925, which led to the adoption of strict building codes that still influence the city’s architecture today. In the mid-20th century, Santa Barbara became a popular tourist destination known for its beautiful beaches, lush landscapes, and Mediterranean-inspired architecture. The city has also been a hub for the arts, with attractions such as the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and the annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival drawing visitors from around the world. Today, Santa Barbara continues to be a vibrant and culturally rich city, blending its historical roots with modern amenities.
