Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Originally inhabited by the Kumeyaay people, San Diego was first visited by Spanish explorers in the 16th century. In 1769, Spanish settlers established the first European settlement in what is now Old Town San Diego. The city was later incorporated in 1850 as part of the new state of California. San Diego’s economy boomed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries with the growth of the fishing and shipping industries. The city also became a major hub for the military, with the establishment of several naval bases and marine corps installations. In the mid-20th century, San Diego experienced rapid population growth and urban development, becoming known for its beautiful beaches, mild climate, and diverse culture. Today, San Diego is a major tourist destination, known for its thriving economy, world-class universities, and innovative biotech and telecommunications industries. With a rich history and a bright future, San Diego continues to attract visitors and residents from around the world.
