Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Raleigh, North Carolina was founded in 1792 as the state capital of North Carolina. The city was named after Sir Walter Raleigh, an English explorer who attempted to establish a colony on Roanoke Island in the late 16th century. Throughout the 19th century, Raleigh grew steadily as a political and cultural center, hosting important events such as the adoption of the North Carolina Constitution in 1835. The city also played a key role in the Civil War, with several significant battles taking place nearby. In the 20th century, Raleigh experienced rapid growth and development, becoming known for its research institutions, including North Carolina State University. The city also attracted high-tech companies and became known as the “Research Triangle” along with nearby Durham and Chapel Hill. Today, Raleigh continues to thrive as a hub of technology, education, and culture in North Carolina, with a vibrant downtown area and numerous attractions for residents and visitors alike.
