Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Originally inhabited by the Native American Lenape tribe, Queens, New York was settled by the Dutch in the early 17th century and named after Queen Catherine of Braganza. The area flourished as a farming community until the mid-19th century when rapid industrialization transformed it into a bustling urban center. Queens became a major transportation hub with the completion of the Long Island Rail Road in the 19th century and the construction of bridges and tunnels connecting it to Manhattan. The borough also saw a massive influx of immigrants in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, leading to its rich cultural diversity. In the 20th century, Queens continued to grow and develop, with the opening of major airports such as LaGuardia and JFK, and the hosting of the 1939 and 1964 World’s Fairs. Today, Queens is known for its vibrant neighborhoods, world-class museums, diverse culinary scene, and thriving arts and entertainment industry.
