Welcome to the Newto News for February of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Panama City, Florida was founded in 1909 as a planned community by two businessmen, George Mortimer West and Albert M. Wigginton. The city was named after the nearby Panama Canal, which was under construction at the time. During the early 20th century, Panama City experienced a boom in population and development due to its strategic location on the Gulf of Mexico. The city became a hub for shipping, fishing, and tourism, with beautiful beaches and a mild climate attracting visitors from all over the country. In the 1940s, the city played a crucial role in World War II as a training base for U.S. soldiers headed to the Pacific Theater. After the war, Panama City continued to grow and prosper, becoming known for its diverse economy and welcoming community. Today, Panama City is a thriving city with a population of over 36,000 residents. It remains a popular destination for tourists and retirees alike, offering a mix of history, natural beauty, and modern amenities.
