Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Omaha, Nebraska was founded in 1854 by speculators from Council Bluffs, Iowa who saw the potential for a new city along the Missouri River. The city quickly grew with the influx of settlers drawn to the area by opportunities in agriculture, transportation, and trade. In the late 19th century, Omaha became a major transportation hub with multiple railroad lines converging in the city. This led to the establishment of meatpacking plants and factories, solidifying Omaha’s status as an industrial powerhouse in the Midwest. During the early 20th century, Omaha experienced a rapid expansion in population and infrastructure, leading to the development of new neighborhoods, parks, and cultural institutions. In 1965, a race riot erupted in North Omaha, highlighting racial tensions in the city. Today, Omaha is known for its diverse economy, strong job market, and vibrant arts and culture scene. The city is home to several Fortune 500 companies, prestigious universities, and world-class museums and attractions.
