Welcome to the Newto News for December of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Ogden, Utah was founded in 1844 by trapper Miles Goodyear as Fort Buenaventura. It quickly grew into a bustling frontier town due to its strategic location along the Overland Trail and the Transcontinental Railroad. The city was named after Peter Skene Ogden, a fur trapper who explored the area in the 1820s. By the late 19th century, Ogden had become a major railroad hub, with multiple rail lines converging in the city. This led to rapid industrialization and economic growth, with industries such as agriculture, manufacturing, and mining flourishing in the area. Ogden played a significant role in World War II, serving as a training center for military personnel and producing materials for the war effort. After the war, the city experienced a population boom as returning soldiers settled in the area. Today, Ogden is a vibrant city known for its outdoor recreational opportunities, cultural attractions, and historic charm. It continues to thrive as a center for commerce, tourism, and education in northern Utah.
