Welcome to the Newto News for December of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Odessa, Texas, was founded in 1881 as a water stop and cattle shipping point on the Texas and Pacific Railway. The city quickly grew as settlers were drawn to the area by the promise of fertile land and opportunities in the booming oil industry. In the 1920s, the discovery of oil in the Permian Basin sparked a population boom, transforming Odessa into a thriving oil town. During World War II, Odessa became a center for military training and manufacturing, further fueling its growth and development. In the 1950s and 60s, the city experienced another population explosion as more oil reserves were discovered in the region. Today, Odessa is a diverse and vibrant city known for its strong economy, rich cultural heritage, and community spirit. With a population of over 100,000 residents, Odessa continues to be a hub for oil and gas production, as well as a center for education, healthcare, and commerce in West Texas.
