Welcome to the Newto News for December of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Odessa, Texas was founded in 1881 as a water stop and cattle shipping point on the Texas and Pacific Railway. The city quickly grew as farmers and ranchers settled in the area, attracted by the fertile land and opportunities for trade. In the early 1900s, the discovery of oil in the Permian Basin led to a boom in population and economic growth for Odessa. The city became known as the “Oil Capital of Texas” and attracted workers from all over the country seeking employment in the booming oil industry. During World War II, the city played a crucial role as a strategic location for military training and defense production. After the war, Odessa continued to prosper as oil production and refining industries expanded. Today, Odessa is a vibrant city with a diverse economy centered around oil, agriculture, and manufacturing. The city is also known for its strong sense of community and cultural attractions, such as the Odessa Meteor Crater and the Ellen Noël Art Museum.
