Welcome to the Newto News for December of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Founded in 1889, Norman, Oklahoma was established as a land run settlement in the Oklahoma Territory. Named after Abner Norman, a railroad surveyor, the city quickly grew into a thriving community with the development of the railroad and the establishment of the University of Oklahoma in 1890. The university became a major anchor for the city, attracting students, faculty, and businesses to the area. Throughout its history, Norman has experienced notable events such as the Siege of Norman during the Civil War and devastating tornadoes in 1907 and 2013. However, the city has always demonstrated resilience and strength in the face of adversity. Today, Norman is known for its vibrant arts scene, world-class museums, and strong academic presence. The city continues to grow and evolve, while still maintaining its rich history and small-town charm.
