Naples, Florida was founded in the late 1880s by a group of wealthy Kentucky businessmen who were attracted to the area’s mild climate and natural beauty. They named the town after Naples, Italy, due to its similar lush landscape and proximity to the Gulf of Mexico. Initially, Naples was a small fishing village, but its growth accelerated in the early 20th century when developers began to market the town as a luxurious resort destination for wealthy tourists from the northern United States. The construction of hotels, golf courses, and upscale homes transformed Naples into a premier vacation spot. During World War II, the city experienced a brief decline as many tourists chose to stay away from Florida’s coastlines. However, after the war, Naples experienced a resurgence in tourism and development. Today, Naples is known for its white sandy beaches, high-end shopping, and fine dining establishments, making it a popular destination for visitors and retirees alike.
