Nags Head, located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, has a rich history dating back to the early 19th century. The town’s name is said to have originated from the practice of pirates tying lanterns to the necks of their horses to lure ships to shore and then plunder them. In the late 1800s, Nags Head became known as a popular vacation destination due to its beautiful beaches and picturesque sand dunes. The town saw rapid growth in the 20th century with the development of hotels, restaurants, and other tourist amenities. During World War II, Nags Head was home to a Naval Auxiliary Air Station that served as a training base for pilots. Following the war, the town continued to thrive as a vacation destination, attracting visitors with its pristine beaches and charming beach cottages. Today, Nags Head remains a vibrant coastal community, welcoming visitors from far and wide to enjoy its natural beauty and laid-back atmosphere.
