Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Founded in 1772, Morgantown, West Virginia began as a small settlement along the Monongahela River. The town was named after Zackquill Morgan, an early settler and landowner in the area. Throughout the 19th century, Morgantown grew rapidly due to the coal mining industry and its strategic location on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. The town became an important hub for transportation and commerce in the region. In the 20th century, Morgantown solidified its reputation as a center for education and innovation with the establishment of West Virginia University in 1867. The university has since become a major driver of the local economy and a source of cultural enrichment for the community. Today, Morgantown is a bustling university town known for its vibrant arts scene, outdoor recreation opportunities, and strong sense of community. With a rich history and promising future, Morgantown continues to thrive as a dynamic and welcoming city in West Virginia.
