Welcome to the Newto News for December of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Minneapolis, Minnesota was founded in 1856 by John H. Stevens and Franklin Steele. Originally a hub for the lumber industry due to its proximity to the Mississippi River, the city quickly grew into a major center for milling and manufacturing in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The city’s population boomed during this time, attracting immigrants from Scandinavia, Germany, and Eastern Europe who came to work in the mills and factories. In the early 20th century, Minneapolis became known for its progressive politics, with leaders like Mayor Hubert Humphrey advocating for civil rights and social welfare programs. The city also became a hub for the arts, with the founding of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the Walker Art Center. Today, Minneapolis is a vibrant and diverse city known for its strong economy, cultural attractions, and beautiful lakes and parks. It is also home to a thriving music scene, with a rich history of producing talented musicians across a variety of genres.
