Welcome to the Newto News for May of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Miami, Florida was originally inhabited by the Tequesta Native American tribe before Spanish explorers arrived in the 16th century. The area was later settled and developed by Spanish missionaries and settlers. In the 19th century, Miami became a hub for trading and shipping due to its strategic location on the Atlantic coast. The city experienced rapid growth in the early 20th century, fueled by an influx of immigrants and the construction of the Florida East Coast Railway. Miami quickly became a popular destination for tourists and winter residents, earning the nickname “The Magic City.” Throughout the mid-20th century, Miami continued to grow and diversify, becoming a center of commerce, culture, and international trade. The city also played a key role in the Cuban exile community, welcoming refugees and becoming a hotspot for Cuban cuisine and culture. Today, Miami is known for its vibrant arts scene, eclectic neighborhoods, beautiful beaches, and thriving multicultural population. It continues to be a major hub for international business and tourism, making it one of the most important cities in the southeastern United States.
