Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Miami, Florida was originally inhabited by the Tequesta people before European exploration led to Spanish colonization in the 16th century. The city was officially founded in 1896 and quickly became a popular destination for tourists and immigrants due to its warm climate and proximity to the Caribbean and Latin America. In the 1920s, Miami experienced a rapid population and economic boom, fueled by the construction of luxurious hotels and the completion of the Overseas Highway connecting the city to the Florida Keys. However, this growth was followed by a devastating collapse during the Great Depression. In the mid-20th century, Miami saw another influx of immigrants, particularly from Cuba, which greatly influenced the city’s culture and cuisine. The onset of the Mariel Boatlift in 1980 further solidified Miami as a hub for Latin American immigrants. Today, Miami is a vibrant metropolis known for its diverse population, beautiful beaches, and thriving arts and entertainment scene.
