Welcome to the Newto News for December of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Manchester, New Hampshire was founded in 1751 by Samuel Blodgett, a surveyor and land speculator. Originally called “Derryfield,” the town quickly became a thriving community due to its prime location on the Merrimack River, which provided ample opportunities for trade and industry. In the late 19th century, Manchester rapidly expanded as a center for textile manufacturing, with numerous mills lining the riverbanks. Immigrants from Europe, particularly French Canadians, Irish, and Greeks, flocked to the city for jobs in the booming textile industry. However, the decline of the textile industry in the mid-20th century led to economic struggles in Manchester. In recent years, the city has experienced a revitalization with a focus on healthcare, technology, and education industries. Today, Manchester is a bustling city with a rich history, vibrant cultural scene, and a diverse population. It is known for its beautiful parks, historic architecture, and strong sense of community.
