Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Macon, Georgia was founded in 1823 as the county seat of Bibb County. Named after Nathaniel Macon, a prominent North Carolina statesman, the city quickly became a hub of commerce and industry in the region. By the mid-19th century, Macon was a major center for the cotton trade, with its location along the Ocmulgee River making it a key transportation hub for the growing city. During the Civil War, Macon served as a vital Confederate supply center and was spared from destruction as Union troops bypassed the city on their march through Georgia. After the war, Macon continued to grow and prosper, becoming known for its vibrant music scene and historic architecture. Today, Macon is a diverse and thriving city, home to a rich cultural heritage and a strong sense of community. With a thriving downtown area, numerous historic sites, and a strong sense of Southern hospitality, Macon continues to be a place where residents and visitors alike can experience the best of Georgia.
