Welcome to the Newto News for December of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Louisville, Kentucky was founded in 1778 by George Rogers Clark, a Revolutionary War hero, on the site of a former military outpost. The city was named after King Louis XVI of France in gratitude for his support during the war. Louisville quickly grew into a bustling river port town along the Ohio River, serving as a gateway to the west for settlers and traders. During the Civil War, Louisville was a key strategic location for both the Union and Confederate armies due to its location on the river and its importance as a transportation hub. After the war, Louisville continued to flourish as a center of industry and commerce, becoming known for its bourbon distilleries and tobacco production. In the 20th century, Louisville became known for its horse racing industry, most notably the Kentucky Derby held annually at Churchill Downs. Today, Louisville is a vibrant city with a diverse population and a rich cultural heritage.
