Los Angeles, California, commonly known as the entertainment capital of the world, has a rich and diverse history dating back to the early 18th century. Originally inhabited by indigenous tribes such as the Tongva and Chumash, the area was first explored by Spanish settlers in the late 1700s. The city was officially founded in 1781 by Spanish governor Felipe de Neve, who named it El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles (The Town of Our Lady the Queen of the Angels). Throughout the 19th century, Los Angeles grew rapidly as a result of the booming cattle and oil industries. The completion of the transcontinental railroad in 1876 further fueled the city’s growth, turning it into a major transportation hub for the region. In the early 20th century, the rise of the Hollywood film industry solidified Los Angeles’ reputation as a global entertainment hub. Today, Los Angeles is a sprawling metropolis known for its diverse cultural landscape, iconic landmarks such as the Hollywood Sign and Griffith Observatory, and thriving arts scene. With a population of nearly 4 million residents, Los Angeles continues to be a vibrant and dynamic city that attracts people from all walks of life.
