Welcome to the Newto News for May of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Little Rock, Arkansas was founded in 1821, originally as a trading post along the Arkansas River. The city grew rapidly due to its strategic location as a transportation hub for steamboats and later as a major railroad center. Little Rock became the capital of the Arkansas Territory in 1821 and later the state capital in 1836. During the Civil War, Little Rock was occupied by Union forces and played a key role in the Union’s control of Arkansas. After the war, the city experienced a period of rapid growth and prosperity with the expansion of industries such as timber, cotton, and transportation. In the 20th century, Little Rock gained national attention during the Civil Rights Movement when the desegregation of the city’s public schools led to the famous Little Rock Nine crisis in 1957. Despite this tumultuous period, Little Rock continued to grow and evolve into a diverse and vibrant city with a rich cultural heritage and thriving economy. Today, Little Rock is known for its historic landmarks, arts scene, and outdoor recreational opportunities.
