Las Vegas, Nevada, has a rich and colorful history dating back to the early 19th century. Originally settled by Native American tribes, the area was later claimed by the Spanish in the late 1700s. In 1829, a Mexican scout named Rafael Rivera is said to have discovered the valley while on an expedition to Los Angeles. The city’s modern development began in the early 1900s when the construction of the Hoover Dam brought an influx of workers and tourists to the area. In 1931, the state of Nevada legalized gambling, which led to the growth of the famous Las Vegas Strip and the establishment of the city as a popular entertainment destination. Throughout the mid-20th century, Las Vegas grew rapidly, attracting visitors from around the world with its casinos, shows, and luxury hotels. Today, Las Vegas is known as the entertainment capital of the world, hosting millions of tourists each year and continuing to thrive as a hub of excitement and glamour.
