Lansing, Michigan was founded in 1835 by two brothers from New York, James and John Seymour. The city was named after their hometown of Lansing, New York. In its early years, Lansing was a small agricultural community, but it quickly grew into a bustling industrial center with the arrival of the Michigan Central Railroad in the 1850s. The city became a hub of manufacturing, particularly in the automotive industry, with the founding of Olds Motor Vehicle Company in 1897. Lansing experienced rapid growth and prosperity in the early 20th century, becoming the state capital of Michigan in 1847. With the construction of the state capitol building in 1872, Lansing solidified its status as a political and administrative center. Today, Lansing is a diverse and vibrant city, known for its rich history, cultural attractions, and strong sense of community.
