Welcome to the Newto News for December of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Lansing, Michigan was founded in 1835 by two brothers from Lansing, New York, who named the city after their hometown. Originally a small settlement along the Grand River, Lansing quickly grew into a thriving center of industry and commerce. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Lansing became known for its manufacturing prowess, particularly in the automotive industry. The city was home to the Olds Motor Vehicle Company, founded by Ransom E. Olds in 1897, which later became the legendary automobile manufacturer Oldsmobile. Lansing also played a significant role in the labor movement, with the United Auto Workers union organizing strikes and protests in the city’s factories in the 1930s and 1940s. Today, Lansing is the capital of Michigan and a hub of government, education, and healthcare. The city is home to Michigan State University, one of the largest universities in the United States, as well as numerous museums, parks, and cultural institutions.
