Welcome to the Newto News for December of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Kansas City, Missouri was founded in the 1830s as a port city along the Missouri River. It quickly grew into a trading hub and by the mid-19th century, it was a major stop on the Santa Fe, Oregon, and California Trails. With the arrival of the railroad in the 1870s, Kansas City became a major transportation and manufacturing center. In the early 20th century, Kansas City’s reputation as a jazz mecca began to flourish and it became known as one of the birthplaces of jazz music. Its vibrant music scene attracted legendary performers like Count Basie and Charlie Parker. During the Prohibition era, Kansas City became notorious for its underground speakeasies and the city gained a reputation for lawlessness and political corruption. However, in the mid-20th century, efforts were made to clean up the city’s image and revitalize its downtown area. Today, Kansas City is a thriving metropolis known for its BBQ, jazz music, and sports teams. It continues to grow and evolve as a cultural and economic center in the Midwest.
