Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Jacksonville, Florida was founded in 1822 and named after Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States. The city quickly became a thriving port due to its strategic location on the St. Johns River, attracting settlers and businesses from around the country. During the Civil War, Jacksonville served as an important supply point for the Confederacy, but was later occupied by Union forces. After the war, Jacksonville experienced a period of rapid growth and development as railroads and steamships connected the city to other parts of the country. By the late 19th century, Jacksonville had become a major hub for trade and tourism, with industries such as lumber, citrus, and tourism driving the economy. In the 20th century, Jacksonville continued to grow and modernize, becoming a center for finance, healthcare, and transportation. Today, Jacksonville is the largest city in Florida by area and remains a vibrant and diverse metropolis with a rich history and culture.
