Welcome to the Newto News for May of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. Indianapolis, Indiana was founded in 1821 and quickly became a center for trade and commerce due to its strategic location at the crossroads of several major railroads. The city experienced rapid growth in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a result of the booming automotive industry, with companies such as Ford and General Motors establishing factories in the area. Indianapolis also became known for its sports culture, hosting the first-ever Indianapolis 500 auto race in 1911 and serving as the home of the NCAA headquarters. The city further solidified its reputation as a sports destination with the construction of the iconic Lucas Oil Stadium, home to the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts. Today, Indianapolis is a vibrant and diverse city known for its rich history, thriving arts scene, and world-class museums and attractions. It continues to be a hub for business, culture, and entertainment in the Midwest.
