Welcome to the Newto News for May of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Huntsville, Alabama, originally known as Twickenham, was established in 1805 and quickly became a hub for agriculture and transportation. In the early 19th century, Huntsville was chosen as the site for a military academy, which would later become the renowned Redstone Arsenal. The city played a key role in the Civil War, serving as a center for cotton production and a Confederate stronghold. During the 20th century, Huntsville experienced a significant economic boom with the establishment of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in 1960. This led to Huntsville being dubbed “The Rocket City,” as it became a center for aerospace research and development. The city continued to grow and diversify its economy, attracting high-tech industries and becoming a major player in the defense and technology sectors. Today, Huntsville is a vibrant and thriving city with a rich history and a bright future, attracting residents and visitors alike with its Southern charm and innovative spirit.
