Welcome to the Newto News for December of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Greensboro, North Carolina was founded in 1808 and named after General Nathanael Greene, a key figure in the American Revolutionary War. The city quickly became a hub for the textile industry, with numerous mills and factories springing up in the area. During the Civil War, Greensboro served as a crucial transportation center for the Confederate army. In the 20th century, Greensboro played a significant role in the Civil Rights Movement. In 1960, four African American college students staged a sit-in at a whites-only lunch counter in downtown Greensboro, sparking a wave of similar protests across the country. Today, Greensboro is known for its vibrant arts and culture scene, as well as its numerous universities and colleges. The city continues to grow and evolve, with a focus on sustainability and community development. Greensboro has become a diverse and inclusive city that celebrates its rich history while looking towards the future.
