Fort Wayne, Indiana was founded in 1794 by American Revolutionary War general Anthony Wayne. The city was established at the confluence of the St. Marys, St. Joseph, and Maumee Rivers, making it a strategic location for trade and transportation. During the early 19th century, Fort Wayne grew rapidly as a trading post and supply depot for settlers moving westward.
