Welcome to the Newto News for December of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Fort Wayne, Indiana was founded in 1794 by United States Army Captain John Block and was named after Revolutionary War General Anthony Wayne. Originally a military outpost, the city quickly grew into a thriving frontier town due to its strategic location at the confluence of three rivers. Throughout the 19th century, Fort Wayne became an important transportation hub, with the completion of the Wabash and Erie Canal in 1843 and the arrival of the railroad in the 1850s. The city’s industrial sector boomed, with the manufacturing of products such as railcars, farm equipment, and musical instruments. Fort Wayne continued to prosper in the 20th century, diversifying its economy with the growth of healthcare, education, and technology industries. Today, the city is known for its vibrant arts and culture scene, as well as its numerous parks and outdoor recreational opportunities. With a population of over 260,000 residents, Fort Wayne remains a dynamic and thriving city in the heart of the Midwest.
