Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Eugene, Oregon was founded in 1846 by Eugene Franklin Skinner, a settler from Illinois. Originally named “Skinner’s Mudhole,” the city grew rapidly as a result of the booming lumber industry and the arrival of the Oregon and California Railroad in the late 1800s. In the early 20th century, Eugene became known as a hub for progressivism and environmental conservation, with residents actively promoting sustainability and protecting the surrounding natural beauty. The University of Oregon was established in Eugene in 1876, further boosting the city’s cultural and intellectual standing. Eugene’s economy diversified in the mid-20th century with the growth of technology and healthcare industries. Today, the city is known for its vibrant arts scene, outdoor recreational opportunities, and commitment to environmental sustainability. Eugene continues to thrive as a progressive and inclusive community, welcoming residents and visitors alike to experience its rich history and forward-thinking culture.
