Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

El Paso, Texas has a rich and diverse history that dates back thousands of years. Originally inhabited by various Native American tribes, including the Apache and Comanche, the area was later claimed by Spanish explorers in the 16th century. The city’s name, which means “The Pass” in Spanish, refers to the natural gap in the Franklin Mountains that early settlers used as a passageway. In the 19th century, El Paso became a crucial trading hub along the Butterfield Overland Mail route, connecting the east and west coasts of the United States. The arrival of the railroads in the late 1800s further solidified the city’s importance as a transportation hub. Over the years, El Paso has experienced periods of growth and development, as well as challenges such as border conflicts and the Mexican Revolution. Today, El Paso stands as a vibrant and culturally diverse city, with a thriving economy and strong ties to its rich cultural heritage.
