El Paso, Texas has a rich and diverse history that dates back thousands of years. Originally inhabited by various Native American tribes, including the Apache and Comanche, the area was later claimed by Spanish explorers in the 16th century. The city’s name, which means “The Pass” in Spanish, refers to the natural gap in the Franklin Mountains that early settlers used as a passageway.
