Edinburg, Texas was founded in 1908 by John Closner, a land promoter and rancher. The city was named after Edinburgh, Scotland, in honor of the Scottish heritage of its early settlers. Edinburg quickly became a hub for agriculture, with cotton being the main crop grown in the area.
