Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Destin, Florida was initially inhabited by the Native American Choctaw tribe, who used the area as a fishing and trading hub. The town was officially founded in the early 19th century by Leonard Destin, a fisherman and entrepreneur, who recognized the potential of the area for commercial fishing. Over the years, Destin became known as the “World’s Luckiest Fishing Village” due to its abundant fish population and successful fishing industry. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, tourism began to flourish in Destin, as visitors flocked to its beautiful white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters. The city continued to grow and develop as a popular vacation destination, with the construction of hotels, restaurants, and recreational facilities. Today, Destin is a bustling city, known for its stunning beaches, world-class fishing charters, and vibrant community. It continues to attract visitors from around the world who come to enjoy its natural beauty and Southern hospitality.
