Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Dayton, Ohio was founded in 1796 by a group of settlers led by Jonathan Dayton, a Revolutionary War soldier and later a U.S. Senator. The city grew rapidly as a hub for manufacturing and industry in the early 19th century, with its location along the Great Miami River providing easy access to transportation routes. During the mid-1800s, Dayton became known for its innovations in aviation, spearheaded by the Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur. The brothers conducted their early flight experiments at Huffman Prairie, just outside of the city, before successfully achieving powered, controlled flight on December 17, 1903. Throughout the 20th century, Dayton continued to be a center for technological advancements, particularly in the fields of aerospace and defense. The city also played a significant role in the Civil Rights Movement, with numerous protests and marches taking place in Dayton during the 1960s. Today, Dayton is a vibrant city with a diverse economy and a strong sense of community pride. It is known for its cultural institutions, educational facilities, and outdoor recreational opportunities.
