Dayton, Ohio was founded in 1796 by a group of American Revolutionary War veterans. Originally named “Losantiville,” the city’s name was changed to Dayton in honor of Revolutionary War hero Jonathan Dayton. The city quickly grew into a bustling industrial center, with factories producing textiles, paper, and machinery. During the 19th century, Dayton became known for its innovation and ingenuity. The Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur, built and flew the world’s first successful airplane in Dayton in 1903. The city was also home to the National Cash Register Company (NCR) and the Delco Electronics division of General Motors, cementing its reputation as a hub of technological advancement. In the 20th century, Dayton faced economic challenges as many of its traditional industries declined. However, the city has since revitalized itself with a focus on healthcare, education, and research. Today, Dayton is a vibrant city with a rich history and a promising future.
